When to look at your yard, season by season
Water behaves differently in each season. What to watch, and what we can do then.
Step 1: Late winter: frozen ground, full clay
Frozen ground sheds water, and the clay below is often full. Ice can block a downspout extension. We dig when the ground allows, and we say so when it doesn't.
Step 2: Spring: the best time to watch
The wet weeks run from spring into early summer. Walk the yard in a hard rain and note where water pools or runs. A short video of it helps us a lot, and we will ask for it when we call.
Step 3: Summer: dry ground digs best
In dry weeks the ground is firm and the machine leaves a lighter footprint. Thunderstorms still drop a lot at once, so downspouts matter most.
Step 4: Fall: leaves
Leaves fill gutters, catch basins and yard drains. Clear the grates before the fall rains. A grate that stays full sends water around it.
Step 5: After a thaw: check the outlets
A line that ends where water can sit can freeze at the outlet. After a thaw, look at where each pipe ends.
Book before the wet weeks
Walk-throughs fill up in spring. A request now gets a plan before the rain does.
